Define the monitoring job

Thanks to Decodo for sponsoring this video.

The task checks 50 npm packages used by a repository for versions and security alerts. Its first run encountered 403 Forbidden, so successful scheduling alone was not a successful monitor.

  1. Identify the exact repository and package list.
  2. Specify the report fields, source pages and the time the report should cover.
  3. Run once and inspect missing pages, errors and unverified values before accepting the report.

Connect the collection layer

The recording obtains a Decodo Web Scraping API token and stores it in a local .env through masked entry. The linked decodo-web-fetch resource contains the demonstrated Skill.

  1. Use the exact Decodo resource link and the separate Skill page retained with this video.
  2. Store the token locally without pasting it into a script, screenshot or shared report.
  3. Make the scraping API the required method for this task’s pages, rather than accepting an unreported fallback to failed direct fetches.

Verify completeness and failure reporting

A monitor should make missing data visible. A plausible summary is not enough when some dependencies were never checked.

  1. Use Run now to test the revised task.
  2. Compare the report with the complete 50-package input list and inspect representative source pages.
  3. Require failures to be listed explicitly and preserve the last verified value separately from a new unverified claim.
  4. Choose browser automation for interactive work; use a collection API when the task needs repeatable page data.

The takeaway

The useful result is a report whose coverage you can verify. Free-plan limits and discount terms in the September video need checking at the destination.
