# Gemini CLI: inspect a small terminal task before expanding the workflow

Keep installation, authentication and the generated project result as separate checks.

## Understand the terminal workflow

The June 2025 video introduces Gemini CLI as an open-source assistant working from the command line. It compares the approach with Claude Code, ChatGPT’s Code Interpreter and traditional IDE work. The useful question is which task the agent can complete in your project, not whether a terminal interface alone makes it more capable.

Installation appears at 3:04 and terminal tasks at 4:52. The description mentions bug detection, repository summaries and video generation, but does not reproduce an exact installation command or a complete test of every listed use. Follow the recorded route for the demonstrated setup.

1. Choose a small task and the project folder it belongs to.
2. Follow installation and inspect that the intended client starts.
3. Keep the first response and any errors before changing the configuration.

## Use the Hello World example as the first build check

The site example begins at 6:27, followed by adding an API key at 8:44 and permanent installation through npm at 10:01. Distinguish a generated project from a project you can actually run and inspect. Keep the chosen authentication route visible so a later failure can be traced to access, configuration or code.

For a repository summary, compare the explanation with the actual files. For a bug request, inspect the identified behaviour rather than assuming that a persuasive explanation confirms a defect. The recording provides an orientation, not a universal ranking over other coding assistants.

1. Open the generated site through its project’s run route.
2. Compare the visible result with the request.
3. Inspect the effect of the API-key and installation changes on the same small task.

## Keep historical access and source-link limits clear

The title and description emphasise free access, but those are June 2025 claims rather than a current usage entitlement. Check the supported terms for the route you use before treating unlimited or zero-cost language as a budget.

The description’s blog link is malformed: https://https://datacamp.pxf.io/9LqnDW. No repaired tracking destination is substituted here. Use the recorded installation sequence as the retained example, and keep the model, access method and working output together when judging whether to use the CLI for a larger job.

## The takeaway

Confirm the client and access route, inspect one small output and retain the working setup before widening the task.

## Sources and limitations

Written companion prepared 2 November 2026 from this exact published video description and its chapter sequence. The full recording was not independently watched or transcribed for this article, and the products and reported results were not retested. Checklists are editorial adaptations of the documented workflow. Model availability, interfaces, prices and offers may have changed since publication; use the retained original resources for current requirements.
