## Write down the work behind the request

Thanks to TripleTen for sponsoring this video.

Luke recounts moving from a £25,700 graduate role to £52,500 as a cloud consultant. His experience is not a salary forecast for another role or market.

1. List responsibilities you already carry beyond your formal role.
2. Attach specific deliverables, outcomes and feedback to each example.
3. Separate contributions you can substantiate from broad claims that you work hard.

## Audit your actual level

The video describes an internal promotion Luke had not been told about. Public titles and internal grades can tell different stories.

1. Check your public title, internal grade and salary band.
2. Ask for the responsibilities expected at the next level and the promotion criteria.
3. Compare those criteria with the evidence you collected and identify the remaining gaps.

## Prepare a clear conversation

Luke describes one negotiation from £35,000 to £40,000 and stresses timing the ask when an employer wants you. Those numbers are his historical examples.

1. Decide the role, scope and one clear number you want to discuss.
2. Prepare a concise explanation using the evidence and the employer’s criteria.
3. Ask what decision process and date apply, then record the agreed next step.
4. Review a partial correction against the full role and responsibilities instead of assuming the issue is settled.

## The takeaway

The companion is a preparation worksheet from a personal account, not financial or employment advice. TripleTen’s featured programmes have their own entry requirements.
