## Define the skill gap before the certificate

Luke’s December 2025 video presents course recommendations for 2026 and names DataCamp’s Data Engineer in Python Career Track as his top pick. It asks how to learn Python for data engineering, choose a certification and move toward that work. That is a dated recommendation, not proof that one qualification guarantees a role or covers every learner’s starting point.

1. Choose a small task you want to perform with data and save a baseline attempt. Identify whether the missing skill is Python fundamentals, analysing a dataset or building a repeatable engineering process.
2. Write the knowledge you already have, available study time and evidence you want from the course. Compare those requirements with the stated prerequisites and projects before choosing by certificate title alone.

## Compare the four course routes directly

The chapter sequence visits DataCamp’s engineering track at 0:23 and Python Data Fundamentals at 2:35, followed by Udemy at 4:08 and Coursera at 5:34. Keep that sequence separate from the numbered link list, which places the final two in a different order.

1. Review Data Engineer in Python at https://datacamp.pxf.io/55eLnD and Python Data Fundamentals at https://datacamp.pxf.io/aOJ6eQ. Compare their practice format and scope with the baseline skill gap rather than assuming they serve identical needs.
2. Review Udemy’s Data Engineering for Beginners: Learn SQL, Python & Spark at https://www.udemy.com/course/data-engineering-essentials-sql-python-and-spark and Coursera’s Data Analysis with Python at https://imp.i384100.net/POLkb6. Check what each asks you to build and which topics it expects you to know already.

## Demonstrate the learning on your own example

A completed lesson and an independently repeated task provide different evidence. Use the course structure to practise, then check whether you can explain the code, rerun the process and handle a small input change without merely repeating the demonstrated answer.

1. After a relevant section, repeat the baseline task on a permitted sample dataset. Inspect the output, explain the transformations and record errors or corrections you still needed help to resolve.
2. Compare current syllabus, access conditions and costs before enrolling. Keep any dated certification discount separate from the learning outcome and choose the smallest commitment that addresses the identified gap.

## The takeaway

Choose the route whose exercises match the work you need to learn. A useful course produces a demonstrable skill, while certification and employment outcomes remain separate questions.
